3D printed parts program by a truck company

Daimler Trucks in North America last month announced that it will start producing plastic parts using 3D printing to its customers as a part of a pilot program.

This will enable Daimler to produce parts that typically the company struggled to provide due to low or intermittent demand for its older model trucks.

This allows the company to print on demand with shorter lead times for customers who often may have to wait for a long time for hard-to-find parts.

This is a good example of  how 3D printing can be used to for specific purposes to cut costs and production times for parts that are no longer in demand and difficult to replace otherwise.
